Chapter Twenty-One

When everyone had again gathered over at Cullum Hall following yet another victory by the Black Knights out at Michie Stadium, they were in great spirits and the mood was celebratory. Mitch Cooper had again led the offense to a big win and, when he finally made his appearance, everyone wanted to come over and congratulate him.

Kelsey was used to all of this by now and, in spite of her short stature, she managed to take charge and keep the crowd at bay. There were a great deal of cat calls, of course, but everyone knew she was Mitch’s girl and they all deferred to her demands.

Tracy and John had witnessed all this many times but it was still new to both Sam and Trevor, who got a big kick out of the whole thing. Snacks and drinks were brought over to the tables which this large group of friends had claimed. Many had been in that special language class taught by Major Khan the year before. Pashto and Farsi. Since the location for that had also been where Kelsey conducted her tutoring, their group had often placed signs on their tables designating them for use by KK@KK members. Their acronym KK@KK was short for Khan’s Klass at Kelsey’s Korner. While the signs were no longer in evidence, most of the upperclass cadets all knew whom these tables were for.

There were several other couples, of course: Gary and Kelly, Marcus and Chandra, Tony and Cassie. Then there were the girls whose significant others were absent: Nell, Karen, Sharon, Sally. Plus many others who this core group of friends had brought into their circle. Sam was very pleased to now be included.

Trevor knew he was completely in love with Sam and adored everything about her. The way she looked, the way she played rugby, the way she wanted to talk about all the things she had experienced back home as well as everything going on at the academy, the way she was so committed to serving as an officer in the Army … all of these things and many more. Then, there was the way he felt when they were kissing. She was the girl he had always dreamed of but had never believed would truly fall in love with someone like him. Thus, he was going forward very carefully.

He knew about those bad experiences she’d had with the two guys she’d been with in high school. The revelations about them had been gradual, with him doing a lot of reading between the lines and then making some guesses which she then had confirmed. She seemed pleased he wanted to pry all those intimate details out of her.

And the trip they were now planning back to her hometown so she could introduce him to her family? He knew that was really huge and would be some sort of a turning point in their relationship. Although he talked to John about how he felt and he knew Tracy
